Shavuot and Shabbat programs and speaker bio


BKOA is excited to present the Shavuot and Shabbat learning programs for this week.

Please note the attached sign with the Shavuot night learning program and please note the following ADDITIONAL shiurim as well taking place on Friday and Shabbat:

  • Rabbi Leibtag will be giving a shiur in English on Shavuot (Friday) morning following the 8:30 Main shul Minyan.
  • Rabbi Leibtag will be giving a shiur in English on Shabbat morning following the 8:30 main shul minyan.
  • Rabbi Dr. Ari Bergmann will be giving two shiurim in English on Shabbat afternoon - at 18:30 and following the 19:15 Mincha. Following is a bio of Rabbi Dr. Bergmann:

Rabbi Dr. Ari Bergmann is the founder and Managing Principal of Penso Advisors, LLC, a New York-based global macro and risk management boutique specializing in derivatives structuring/trading and systemic risk mitigation. Prior to founding the firm in 1997, Dr. Bergmann was a Senior Managing Director at Bankers Trust.

Ari received a BTL from Ner Israel Rabbinical College in 1981 and furthered his graduate studies at many prestigious Yeshivot in Israel. He holds an MA and Ph.D. in Comparative Religion from Columbia University, where he studied with Professors Yosef Hayim Yerushalmi and David Weiss Halivni. Ari is an Adjunct Professor at Yeshiva University and before coming to YU, he taught at Columbia University and at the University of Pennsylvania. His book, The Formation of the Talmud: Scholarship and Politics in Yitzhak Isaac Halevy’s Dorot Harishonim, was just published by De Gruyter in February 2021. Ari lectures extensively in Israel, Brazil, Europe and the US on topics of Finance, Talmud and Jewish Thought.
